Start with a decision.
A release checklist should help someone make a decision, rather than create a longer ritual. Ask what must be true before a release can be considered ready. For a small software project, a useful starting point is test review, a rollback path, monitoring, release notes, and an accountable owner.
Make the evidence easy to find.
A checked box records an assertion. It does not prove that a build passed or that an alert works. Keep the underlying evidence in the appropriate engineering system and use the release record to explain what was reviewed. Be clear about whether a check is entered by a person or verified by an integration.
Review the exceptions.
If a step is skipped frequently, ask why. It may need a clearer definition or a different place in the workflow. Keep the checklist small enough to review honestly, and treat incomplete checks as a visible question rather than something to hide.
